add AD or announcement forum

We know you have an opinion on how things should be run around here. These are suggestions for the forums, and the website. This forum is not a place to ask for suggestions to your own coding (or otherwise) problems.

add AD or announcement forum

Post by aaaphp000000 »

I have submitted my software products to several forums which allow AD, those forums are very powerful, one of reasons is that they allow AD.

this forum is at quite top of searcher engines, why don't you add an AD forum also?

as people said: "if you offer more, you will receive more".

Could you elaborate? You mean a board that gets used for spamming? If we had a board for open advertising that's exactly what would happen.

Users are allowed to advertise (within reason) in the following boards at present:

Web Hosting
Job Hunt

Spam will be removed from these boards if we see fit. Advertising is not allowed elsewhere.

Perhaps I've misunderstood you?

We're not in it for the money. The forum is a place for programmers to ask questions and exchange ideas without people trying to sell them things.

In saying that I might be interested in some *discrete* ads if the cash generated was plowed back into the site - eg giving away free programming textbooks - but it's not something we're looking at right now.

wonder why you are hell-bent on modifying these forums to accept ads  inspite of being told-off that this forum isn't there for commercial purposes... whats da motive behind this???

Nobody think that you do something bad but most of the users think
that this forum is great as it is - thats it!

I guess he showed us, huh?

This always cracks me up. I have, from time to time, "voted with my feet" by deciding to no longer patronize an establishment because I did't like their product or service. There are three ways to do that:

1. Just leave. They never see you again, and they never know why. (..and may not care.)

2. Leave, with a polite message to the effect "You may wish to know why I'm leaving."

3. Punish them with a "I'm never coming back" message, about which they are certain not to care.

I prefer #2, but I have to admit I sometimes use #1. But #3 is something I quit doing at about age twelve. (.. because I matured slowly.)

(There are other ways, of course, like hand grenades or RPG's. But I'm talking about realistic ways.)

You could always leave, take a 4 year soft architecture course, wait until phpBB4 is released, do a quick search for the latest XSS/CSRF issues, assassinate Chris Shiflett (before he gets a word in edgewise), hack the forums on feyd's birthday, edit n00B Saibot's title to "I like Teletubbies", and end it all by deleting 10 years of archived topics.

I disclaim all responsibilties for the actions of any readers of this post.

I'd like to think this was a genuine offer of help. If so thanks but the aim of the forums isn't to make money.

What happened to respect of others here? Honestly you guys, he came to offer a suggestion and unless I missed something you guys just shot him down...

What was the point of all that insulting? Come on guys. He came here to offer a suggestion. Thats what this forum is for. He didn't try to insult anyone here, he didn't offend the message boards.

* I know this guy may have come here and started saying all the things he would like to see but thats no big deal. They're just suggestions. *

Good thing no one insulted him then, unless you mean after he left?

That, and then once he did leave there was no need to keep insulting him. This is just a suggestions forum not a flame board.
