Maybe a finished project forum?

We know you have an opinion on how things should be run around here. These are suggestions for the forums, and the website. This forum is not a place to ask for suggestions to your own coding (or otherwise) problems.

Maybe a finished project forum?

Post by Flamie »

Maybe we could have a forum to show our websites, discuss the technology used in them and get feedback?
A lot of people post asking for help about their code, I think it'd be nice to see what the final result is when their project in done!

not a bad idea... we have a section like that for usability (client side), so why not?

Something like a showcase would be good. We can see what all of us devnetwork members have been building.

"Finished project" nearly had my immediate "No" vote. Rephrasing to "Showcase" makes all the difference, and I would definitely be in favor. :)

The difference? Many projects are never finished, yet plenty ready to showcase. :)

I second (or is it third? fourth?) the idea. A showcase would be pretty freaking neat. Neater still if you can highlight the DevNet Snippets used, if any, in your showcase.

This is pretty much what we're doing with the Code Snippets restructuring. The new forum will be a showcase/critique area.

Let me see what's happening with this ;)

HUH?

Code Snippets are entirely unrelated to project showcases. Take Nextforum, for example. If we got it to a state of development worth showing off, I wouldn't post 20,000+ lines of code as a *snippet*, nor would devnet put up a working version for people to explore and comment on.

I think you are completely misunderstanding the desire. Smarty's forums have a showcase section, which might help you understand the difference: http://www.phpinsider.com/smarty-forum/ ... um.php?f=8

Thats not a snippets section. At all. Totally different purposes.
