I assume you're talking about a gamedev forum for PHPDN?

I think that is entirely too specific a topif to have a forum dedicated to it here. That would be the same as a forum dedicated to frameworks, controllers, CMS, etc. Although PHP games are very popular, they are still essentially a collection of PHP Code, Databases and PHP Security.

then can they're be a group dedicated toward this if this is not approved? As i do find that although it includes what you said and could be that specific, it also has special things that are used in different ways that you only use in this.

Although I'd readily agree game programming in PHP differs from the usual application programming along several lines, I don't think it needs a separate forum. Most of the differences are variations on the same themes already covered in the forum. I develop a PHP game myself and have worked on several others.

in response to feyd's question, i meant a usergroup meant for introducing the ideas and thought process meant in programming a game in php. The group as i previously stated would introduce gamedev to people that wanted to, possibly have a email that is sent about monthly if you would like to subscribe to the email, support people in the process of making a game, help test for bugs and fix bugs, and also help in the case of assembling teams specifically in this field. I find these are the main core of what this group would provide, but it will almost definitely include much more, and woud help not only the game programmers, but the whole forum, as it will probably bring more people to the forum along with helping many php game developers that already inhabit this forum.

How do you propose this group be implemented?

possibly in the form of a usergroup, if it runs as a usergroup i believe it should be on a free to join basis/open to everyone. I believe that that the email subscribe that i previously mentioned, i could if it is a want or demand of the members implement myself, though that is a supremely minor part of this. The main goal, which i guess fits in with usergroups would be to create an area on the phpdn for php programmers to game dev. Which i guess is a phpgdn, on the phpdn!

Writing a game in PHP is the same as writing anything else in PHP.

If we were to create a group for it we'd then have to make "CMS-Dev", "Wiki-Dev", "Forum-Dev", "Framework-Dev" and all the other fads that people are into. It's just too specific. We use phpBB too so we're limited to the functionality it provides. Past experience shows that modding phpBB causes us a complete nightmare in the long run.

As I have said in this thread, and others have reinforced, I think PHP Game development is entirely too specific for our forums. I would vote no if it came up for vote.

I'm with the others. I can only assume the one vote for like it was done by the author :)
