Adding a refresh timer on the main forums page.

HI all, Jason,

I would suggest that a refresh timer be added on the "PHP Forums - The PHPDN Unified Forums Forum Index". Somewhere between 5 and 10 minutes would be great.

I usually keep a browser open on that page and it would be cool to simply come in once in a while and look at the page. OK it's not so much trouble to type CTRL-R or click the refresh button but isn't programming language supposed to make life easier. ;)

while i sympatize with you, i don't believe it is a needed addition. for the potential few that need/want this functionality there are programs that can "hit" the refresh button for you. there is one for IE on this page: http://yoconsoft.hypermart.net/products.html

Have you tried that klipfolio thingie to keep you updated?

My prob with having the page refresh is the way that the forum decides I've seen all the new messages if I load the page and then leave it alone for a bit.

What then if it would be a switch in the profile, if someone choose to have the page refresh it will...

I pretty much have time to read all the messages on the board in the morning so if the refresh function would be on then I'd know with a quick look if there were new messages.

I don't like outside software to automatically refresh pages.

As a side question, are there any ways to block those softwares? At work we have 3 or 4 sites who are constantly in a "visits" battle which to be quite honest doesn't go for the others on the same server. Those sites are all part of the same company and they are using those visits to get more funding so even if we tell them to stop it does nothing, when there's someone to check for this on their computers the software misteriously disapear...
