We had "solved" a while ago, although only for moderators.. but it got lost during one of the "upgrades" to phpbb.

As ~califdon said, any karma-like system is always available for abuse. All one can do is hope to mitigate it via some rule set for the bonuses on may receive. I personally like how Yahoo Answers is set up, karma-wise, on the whole. But they have to deal with point gamers just the same.

Provided their is no tangible score involved, it seriously limits how much point-gaming one may be able to do without inventing ones' own game.

I had Yahoo Answers in mind since I began reading this thread, and am glad somebody else pointed it out. Not to repeat but what has been said, but I'd really like to allow the OP to mark all useful posts to the thread, yada yada.
