The new design is too bright!

Post by vapoorize »

I liked the poster names on the left and the messages on the right better. I also think the new forum design is way too bright! :(
Programmers can only take white screens for so long...

So my question to you is, will you change the design, and if so within how long do you suppose?

Just an FYI, you can change back to subSilver in the User Control Panel.

Ok, I was wrong. I think we didn't install subSilver. I will look at getting that handled soon. Sorry.

Ok, it is installed now, so you can change your default board style using the user control panel.

Current default is proSilver. You can alternatively select subSilver2.

Subsilver is, indeed, better for my eyes. I prefer that theme.

Don't worry, we will be working on customizing this place very shortly.

But in the mean time, be thankful there is actually a forum to complain about  :D

O, no complaining from me! It's great the site is up again, so fast. Since it's very easy to switch to the subsilver theme in preferences, there's no real problem with the new theme for me.

I was just saying it tongue in cheek...making fun of the fact we haven't had a forum recently :)

Yeah, I was almost picking up other hobbies, almost started going out with friends and doing stuff outside, almost started planning that around-the-world trip I always wanted to do. Well, everything is back to normal again :)

Yes! wtf? My eyes :( Have a new theme, great, but don't put everyone on this by default :P

Seriously, in the interest of everyone I think we need subSilver as default ;)

I agree with you Chris. Personally I think it's shear madness to put the avatars on the right. You want to know who you're reading before you start reading the message. Now my eyes have to go all the way to the right and then all the way back to the left again for each post. I forget a lot of the time and then I don't know who I'm reading.

The login problems are really bad too, I was experiencing the same problem on the original original server as well but they seem worse now.

In other bitchings:
- There are way too many configuration settings
- I can enter my ICQ, Jabber etc. into my profile but I can't put Facebook or Twitter in there. Why can't I specify my own social networking tools? These things are notoriously faddy, it's silly to hard-code them.
- I can't believe they kept the date() configuration thing. It's OK for us but do they really expect normal web users to customise that?!
- I don't like the fact I have smilies animating away in the corner of my eye whilst I write posts.
- Links aren't sufficiently distinguished from normal text on a lot of the core interface which is particularly poor form because the problem is so prevalent.
- etc. etc. I could go on. No really, I'm having to force myself not to list about 4 more things that are coming off the top of my head right now.

So, what *has* actually improved? Bookmarks look good I guess.

It is the default theme.

But there doesn't seem to be an option to make the change retrospectively, so the users default theme will be prosilver unless unless changed.

New users will see the subsilver.

Anyway, i dont see prosilver being too bright at all. My only issue with it is, it is slightly cluttered. Im suprised you said it was too bright Chris, the man from downunder where the sun always shines. Maybe you should bring your Oakley's indoors with you :P

Simple, switch your theme to subsilver, problem solved!

Yes, we are aware of the issues, and we are looking into it.

I dont know if this is aimed at us, or the developers of phpBB?

Errr...we actually have a forum to bitch about, rather than no forum at all.

Jaybird, don't get me wrong I have nothing but appreciation for the effort you guys are going to. My complaints are aimed at the PHPBB developers.
