Suggestion

Three times now while replying to a thread I've clicked on a link in the history section and the window redirects and when I click back to continue writing my post, my post is gone!!!
Before the switch to the latest version, I could have swore that links opened in new windows...which is what I have become accustomed too...
Is this possible? I've checked my user setting panel and couldn't find anything...

I'm not sure what you mean by the "history section"? I don't recall any links opening in new windows (other than message notifications) on the previous version of phpBB.

I think he means that when replying to a message, if you scroll down you can see the thread your replying to. Links in there are in same window as in threads now too.

I can see the problem with this. When posting a reply you have visibility into the thread with actual thread being posted below the post box, in an iframe I think (though now it could be a scrollable div). If you click a link in the history it loads the link in the currently active window. With cache settings being what they are, anything you have in the reply box will be gone when you come back (as phpBB now refreshes the page on Back).
I wonder if there is something we could add in the form of a javascript call that will force links in the history div to either open in that div or open in a new window.
Note: This is not the same as links opening in new windows from the forum threads.

Isn't it the same deal is everywhere else? Option-Click?

I can be. Though this circumstance could be somewhat more frustrating than the just regular links taking over the current window. But I suppose if this condition is broadcast to the members in some capacity it won't be that big of an issue.

I am having a helluva time remembering to to right click on links or holding shift key for links within threads...
It would be really cool if links opened in new windows as I contantly have to press back button.
Are there no immediate solutions available, like a plugin or module? Not sure how phpBB is designed...but6 I'm guessing this is a common request, no???

Do you not use firefox, and use tabs? I currently have ~7 Tabs of just Devnetwork right now.
Middle Click is FTW.

I actually really prefer the current behaviour. I hate not having control over my link targets. It's an mis/over-used feature as far as I'm concerned.
I miss my middle click button

- I use ctrl-click all the time now.

For Firefox users...
Tab Mix Plus - You can use it to set even internal links to open in a new tab/window.
