Suggestion for user ranks

I've noticed when using these forums that, just like with most forums, a lot of users don't understand the questions being asked and give inappropriate or mis-leading answers to problems. It is not always helpful to go by the users "rank" (ie 'DevNet guru", "Forum commoner", etc), as this just goes on the number of posts submitted - and I have noticed that just because a user posts a lot doesn't necessarily mean they know what they're talking about.
Perhaps a kind of Yahoo Answers type of system could be implemented where users (possibly only topic authors) can rank answers given, this will allow users to get a reputation for themselves as good quality or poor aulity posts. It also allows users asking questions to listen to the more experienced users who have a reputation for correct and properly written answers.
As well as the obvious benefits a system like this will also promote more polite and more helpful posts, as no-one would want a poor reputation. It may also motivate normally idle users to try and help out a little more.
Just food for thought.
