Stable sites - possible solutions

Post by aravona »

I've been asked to look into the possibility of moving two websites to a more stable platform:
For example, there are shopping cart plugins for Joomla and Drupal open source content management systems and also other “off the shelf” shopping cart solutions like X Cart. The only real proviso that we have is that the design needs to remain identical.
Basically the sites have a few issues with how they are structured as it stands, and require shopping carts (both sites are retail) The thing is I've only just started getting my head around Wordpress but making the sites with wordpress would become too extensive to get the layout identical (Or so I'm told by my boss) However I have zero experience with Joomla or Drupal or other such CMS'

I'd quite like to hear what people have to say on here, since I know you'll know more about these things than me :)

Any advise would be most welcome,

Cheers,

Ara

It is not clear exactly what your question is? It is certainly possible to re-implement a website with different software. What does "more stable" mean? Are you looking for recommendations? Usually using what you know is the best recommendation.

It's not entirely clear what you need/want.

I can comment on this:
I've only just started getting my head around Wordpress but making the sites with wordpress would become too extensive to get the layout identical (Or so I'm told by my boss
If there's one thing which wordpress does good, it's the layout system. You have 100% freedom to make any site look like you want.

The thing is the payment system we've got on two sites which are just made using php and html, the shopping carts are not well made. I know wordpress can intergrate with shopping carts very easily, but it was put forward that re-doing the two sites with Wordpress would be too extensive a project to get the layout identical (I know it takes a while I've been making wordpress themes based on jpg designs)

What I'm asking is really how easy would it be to take site A and site B and re-make them in a short time period with one of the CMS's such as Drupal or Joomla, since my boss has ruled out Wordpress, and get them to look basically the same as they are now?
