SMTP server

XML, Perl, Python, and other languages can be discussed here, even if it isn't PHP (We might forgive you).

SMTP server

Post by mesz »

Dear All,
Please forgive me!
I have come here to ask a non PHP question because I have always found the people here to be the most IT savvy ( and I work in a software development office! )
However I have a moronic question.
If someone is using Microsoft Outlook Express as an email client and needs to reconfigure this to point to a new POP3 mailbox, how do they know what their SMTP server is if they go through a local network and are completely IT illiterate?
( for various reasons I am 400 hundred miles from the office in question and have no telephone access to the network administrators. )

Do they have another account set up that they could crib that info from?

believe me...I hope so...I cannot talk to anyone by phone or email, so trips to the phonebox and fax machine are delaying the process somewhat!
I really was hoping for a miracle cure like a ... nominet list...or global ipconfig type command...pure fantasy I know....but I expect great things from this site!

Can you give us a little more....I don't quite understand the question.

A local network should not have any effect on this unless they are behind a firewall that would limit this.

Need more info!

Cheers for looking into this brewmiser - it is alright though, I have found the outgoing server name.
There was nothing complex about the question, no tricks, just me not being able to get to the computer to look up what I needed.
