Newbie needs 2 definitions (very Basic question)

Post by jrough »

1. What is a .dat file? The question came up regarding the following format files as an email attachment: .csv, .txt, .dat, .mdb, .rtf, .doc
I know what they all mean except the .dat format. I don't know if it is a database.dat meaning some kind of records in a database, in this case, or if it means a music file on a casette tape?

2. What is a text-qualifier? This question was regarding row delimiters, column delimiters and rows and columns, which I assume is talking about a table.

thanks,

thiis question is a rush.

Actually, i don't think this is the wrong forum since both questions are related to databases
.dat is used for huge number of things (including databases): http://filext.com/detaillist.php?extdetail=.DAT

Not sure what you mean by a text-qualifier - can you give the context for this question?
