Convert JPG (Mac and Windows) to TIFF

Whether you are using Linux on the desktop or as a server, it's still good that you're using Linux. Linux related questions go here.

Convert JPG (Mac and Windows) to TIFF

Post by CoderGoblin »

Hello All,

Ok, so I have built a website using php which allows users to upload a jpg file and store it in a directory. This is working well for the web and the images are displayed. The next step is to "professionally" publish these images also in a "newspaper" where the images are required to be converted to TIFF format. Although I am not currently performing this task (will be required to have a solution next week) I have been informed (heard a rumour) that the Mac and Windows JPG files are different and standard conversion utilities may not be relied upon.

Although thoughts on a solution/the actual solution would be appreciated (conversion to be Suse Linux batched based) I am also interested in knowing any web links to a description of these differences/difficulties. I have looked on Google but have found nothing really applicable so far. Can anyone point me in the right direction ?

Thanks

Thanks Weirdan, very useful information... Very much appreciated.

Just out of interest and for my future reference did you use Google or other search engine (with what searchwords) to find it or is it something you had knew about previously?

Ah, that was my mistake I was tending to look for "TIFF JPEG convert" or some such. Live and learn I guess.
