Whether you are using Linux on the desktop or as a server, it's still good that you're using Linux. Linux related questions go here.

Damn, that really sucks...I was hoping to put that computer to good use....looks like I'll have to partition one of my other computers and use that as a testing server if necessary, and let this hunk of junk rot in the basement. =(

Thanks guys. (PS thanks agtlewis for the offer, but my computer uses some special RAM or something...all I know is that I tried putting in some other RAM I had, and while it seemed to fit, it wouldn't work.)

Have you already tried the installation proces of (eg: Debian)? Despite the fact that it might take a while i'm pretty sure it simply works.. I can only advise that you choose partition size so you have 128 - 256mb swap space...

XAMPP can help skip individual installs of Apache, PHP, ProFTPd, MySQL etc. Should work on most Linux distros, and does work (for certain) on Puppy Linux. There are several installer packages for XAMPP on the PL website, i.e. DotPups in case wondering what these are called. Base install will be around 150MBs after extraction. The original XAMPP packages would also work.

Using a lean windows manager like IceWM or similar might help a lot also - cut down on RAM usage and won't beat your presumably puny video card to death. ;)

heh, you could always get one of them linux distros that boot and run off a floppy, and instead of writing it to a floppy, write it to your hard drive. :P then install XAMMP (or w/e) then have fun XD

Puppy needs a minimum of 166MMX and 64MB RAM. I'm afraid my old PC fails miserably in both respects...
