I tried to upgrade my CSS sheet to make the forms look more presentable and of course once I test it in Netscape 4 it is a nightmare and renders the form useless. The select box lists everything like a table and you can't even select anything.
Can we destroy Netscape 4? is it too late to rise up?
Now I have to create two different style sheets if I want it to work in Netscape 4 and since its an e-com site I have to code for people that still have it. damn them!
Some may disagree with what I'm about to say, but I've never been one to worry about that anyways.
I don't support Netscape 4. Who is still using it? I had a site back in '99 and '00 called Linux Rookies where I wrote a piece about how bad and non standards compliant it was. It was also a buggy unstable box of old nitro that was waiting to blow up in your face at any moment. It was so bad at various points on Linux that if you tried to access a page using Java, or it didn't get a response from a DNS server, it would lock up, and sometimes kill the X server.
Terrible!
Anyways, every version since then (5, 6, 7, ...) has been light years more stable and compliant, if not slower. And the vast majority do not use it anymore. I'll support everything except N4! Let's let it die the death.
I just read up online that netscape's share is down to like 3.74% of the market. Thank god.
I actually want to see Netscape / Mozilla stay around. I need to as a matter of fact. I don't want IE for Linux anytime soon! I just want Netscape 4 to go away.
Are you using some tool like Front Page that generates code that only works well on IE? It's not really hard to create something that works on all three.
i design with Mozilla and IE open but i always defer to Mozilla as it is more correct of the two. ive read that Opera 7 is even more standards compliant. i might pick a copy at some point just to give it a whirl.
