Just sick of developing
Man... I am at the point right now where my brain is completely exhausted... I'm so tired of web development right now. I've been doing it all day at work and then when I get home from about 7 until 1-2am... I can't even stand looking at code right now.

This is why I've made my hobbies nonintersecting plains with respect to my "job." Wow, you think I'm in higher level math courses? The Ninja Space Goat wrote:I can't even stand looking at code right now.![]()

We all experience that feeling of fatgiue...
Print some articles and read for a bit...work on some new and interesting code, surf the net for pron...there are many industry and not so industry related activities which you can do for a little while to remove that fatigue you experience - coders block, etc.
I personally find that sitting down and reading something really complex for just 15-30 minutes makes my head spin enough that I begin to wish I could go back to writing code or cleaning up sources, etc...
Or you could just go for a walk or watch TV. Short little hops like that every employer must understand it's why so many development firms have in studio fridges, playstations, excersize equipment, etc...

I thought you said that you play guitar ? Have you tried to learn new songs, find some tunes and notes when you're sick with coding ? I do that, and it refreshes me.....well, at least I have something to make my eyes stop looking at those codes for a while ....The Ninja Space Goat wrote:yea I could really use a new hobby...
The reason you feel this way, IMHO is because you feel that your not getting enough back in return for the time and effort you have spent. Maybe you need to think about that for a while and reconsider what you program and what you want to get back in return. I have felt this way before as well. Sometimes you just need to turn the wheel and steer the ship in a different direction.

Fatigue is inevitable - I mean you do this at work and at home? How can you stand the sight of PHP?
Personally, I intersperse programming with reading or some recreational writing. I find the time taken to write a blog post is enough to recharge my enthusiasm, or maybe a humourous riff on my alter-ego, Maugrim, who happens to be a fictional character in my totally unprofessional creational writing.
I avoid TV if possible - my brain would rot from too much exposure.

You absolutely positively surely need something which doesn't involve not only coding, but computers in general.
(Some call that "life"
)
PHP is a "hobby" for me, a bit different from my daytime job, but it's still coding and glazing at the monitor.
Apart from other social activities, I do recommend sport - any kind, just get those muscles doing something.
We have a table tennis ..errm.. table at work, which is fun AND a good sport, I commute by bike, and I also do a martial art and some music instruments. Add family life, friends, books and absolutely no tv and you find lots and lots of meaningful things to do besides coding. Which makes all of them more fun, even the boring coding
- doing one while resting from another, that's the principle with me.

hmmm... Martial Arts and Biking are something I would love to indulge in.. but i fear i am obsessed with computers
and as you may have guessed I have very little social life. My gf stopped talking for 2-3 months but I remained the same... in the end she had to compromise. I still have 'Geek of the City' tag with me, and I am close friend of very few selective people (and only 1 of them is outside of IT industry
).
I think while coding my MVC, God wrote my Controller with only coding in mind...
I can't seem to think of anything else
