I have been working on a newsletter management application now for about the last year. It's actually an small codebase compared to phpList and others but I favour simplicity so some common features were not yet implemented (custom fields, auto-responders, etc).
Everything is in place except the sending script (ie: cron) needs to be re-implemented for sending on shared servers, so that means caching results in a temp table and sending 100 at a time within a set period of time until the cache is completed. Click tracking and opens need to be logged and reports generated using Flash charts.
I am not planning on releasing the source as GPL but a similar, slightly more restrictive "open" license found here:
http://www.codeproject.com/info/eula.aspx
Essentially GPL with the exception that copyright notices MUST remain intact.
I figure the application is about 85% completed and the remaining work could be done within a week or so between the two of us. I have a solid understanding of the architecture and codebase and have a good idea as to where everything needs to go. I am available essentially around the clock but want to start focusing on marketing/advertising the product.
Ideally you are:
- Experienced with MVC (especially passive view)
- Unit Testing
- W3C standards
- Zealous about DRY & KISS
- Security conscience
- Performance comes last but simplicity equals speed anyway so you never optimize explicitly
It would also really help if you wanted the project to succeed commercially and believed it could be the next WordPress of the newsletter management world. Ideas are always welcome but remember I favour simplicity.
